In "Hurricane," (1999), boxer Ruben "Hurricane" Carter is falsely imprisoned
for a crime he didn't commit, largely, it appears,
through the collective efforts of racist Italian cops, lawyers and judges.

The findings of an honest Italian American investigator (Caruso) eventually helped exonerate Carter. An Italian American judge, Ruggero Aldersit, upheld the original judge's decision to free Carter. And, in a sidenote, the film's suggestion of an alleged "mob fix" of a Carter-Joey Giardello fight was proven false. (Indeed, Giardello, still alive, sued the filmmakers for defamation and won an out-of-court settlement).
